Ruth (Dawes) Wilcox

Ruth Wilcox was an American painter, commercial artist, and craftswoman. She studied at the Art Students League, NY School of Fine & Applied Art, Pennsylvania Academy, and Académie Julian in Paris.
She was a member of the American Artists Professional League and the National Association of Women Artists (NAWA).
Also known as Ruth Wilcox Dawes, she exhibited widely from the 1930s–1940s, including at NAWA, the National Academy of Design, Carnegie Institute, and Montclair Art Museum. She won multiple awards and honors during her career.
Her work is held in collections in New Jersey and New York, including murals for public and private institutions.
She was the daughter of Ray and Ruth Turner Wilcox, and married to James L. Dawes. She studied under Harvey Dunn and her parents, painting a wide range of subjects beyond ship portraits.
